Elio is now working at Tesla.

Background

Born and raised in Southern California until enlisting in the Army at the age of eighteen. After being medically retired I decided to pursue an education, a pursuit which has landed me here at U.C. Santa Barbara as a PhD student. When I am not in the lab I enjoy trail running, yoga, writing, and pondering the meaning of things.

Current Research

Working to develop and characterize NASICON-type Na-ion cathodes. We aim to understand the role of isovalent and aliovalent substitution on charge-discharge processes using XRD, NMR, XAS, and DFT. 

Education

• 2018-2024 – Ph.D. in Materials, UC Santa Barbara.
• 2013-2018 – B.S. in Applied Physics, California State University, San Bernardino. Minor in Applied Mathematics.
