Eliana Fuchs

Background

I grew up in the SF Bay Area, so I’m looking forward to the beach being less cold, foggy, and windy here. I’m happiest when I’m swimming, baking, or in the mountains hiking and jumping in alpine lakes. I feel fulfilled when contributing to causes I care about, like advancing gender equity in science, fighting climate change, and fostering environmental justice. These passions motivated me in my research on Li-ion battery cathodes in the Chueh Group during undergrad, and they guide my work at UCSB.

Current Research

I'm working to understand the redox processes and reaction mechanisms in Li-S solid-state batteries using ex-situ and eventually in-situ magnetic resonance spectroscopy. By examining potential sources of irreversibility and degradation, this work will reveal design rules to improve the coulombic efficiency and cycle life of Li-S batteries.
