Amit Bhattacharya

Current Position

Amit is now an Assistant NMR Manager and Lecturer at Clemson University.

Background

I grew up in Digha, a coastal resort town in the eastern part of India. After spending five years pursuing my Ph.D. in Canada and surviving temperatures as low as -40°F, I am happy to relocate to Santa Barbara. I enjoy having spicy food, playing badminton, and watching anime.

Research

The overarching goal of Amit's research at UCSB was to understand and control fast, correlated ion and proton transport at multiple length and timescales in electrolytes, thereby assisting in the development of next-generation energy storage and conversion materials. This project aimed to unveil the mechanisms driving correlated alkali-ion and proton transport in polymers and polymer-ceramic hybrid electrolytes and elucidate the microscopic mechanisms controlling collective ion transport along and across polymer–ceramic interfaces. Solid-state NMR was a key technique in this research.
