Amit Bhattacharya

Background

I grew up in the eastern part of India, called Digha, which is popular as a coastal resort town. After spending 5 years for Ph.D. in Canada and surviving −40°F, I am happy to relocate to Santa Barbara. I enjoy having spicy food, playing badminton, and watching anime.

Current Research

The overarching goal of my research is to understand and control fast, correlated ion and proton transport at multiple length and time scales in electrolytes. The aim of my project is to unveil the mechanisms driving correlated alkali ion and proton transport in polymers and polymer-ceramic hybrid electrolytes and elucidate the microscopic mechanisms controlling collective ion transport along and across polymer–ceramic interfaces. Solid-state NMR will be used as a key technique for this research. The insight which will be gained from this research will assist in developing next-generation energy storage and conversion materials.
